Boerderij van het Maximiliaanpark Photos by John Weaver |
Leave the city without leaving the city! This little farm, the Boerderij van het Maximiliaanpark (Ferme du Parc Maximilien), is right in the center of Brussels and a real hidden treasure in an otherwise urban jungle of cars and concrete.
From April until the end of October the farm is open free of charge. Take a book and sit by one of the fountains, or just go for a stroll and say hi to the residents. You might get a bah, neigh, cluck or quack back.
How to get there
It's close to Brussels North station and directly next to Yser metro. The entrance is on Avenue de l'Heliport. See map

Hang on, Snoopy?
It recently came to my attention that people around the world are misunderstanding the title of the famous 1960s song "Hang on Sloopy". If you thought the title was "Hang on Snoopy", please let me know in the comments! Don't be ashamed, I don't know what a "Sloopy" is either, but I guess it's a chick that wears a floppy hat and dances all alone at a public concert in a deserted city.
